SIUC Chancellor Cheng Sees Hope for 2012 Budget
Chancellor Rita Cheng of Southern Illinois University Carbondale says the FY2012 state budget outlook is brighter after FY2011 saw about 11 million in appropriations cuts, including 7 million from stimulus funds and 3.5 million to Veterans Grants, with a roughly 15 million deficit amid declining enrollment. Summer enrollment rose and a 6.9 percent tuition hike for new students could bolster revenue if fall follows.
