Illinois farmers may gain per acre aid under new farm bill
Researchers at the University of Illinois estimate federal assistance for Illinois farmers could rise by 12 to 16 dollars per acre under the 2002 Farm Bill under typical price scenarios. Counter cyclical payments drive the increases, but higher prices could reduce or eliminate some payments. Farmers selling grain during low prices risk losing the difference if long term averages rise.
