Southern Illinois Ethnic Festival to grace Carbondale Town Square
The Carbondale Chamber unveils a three day Ethnic Festival with foods from Cajun to Polish, entertainment from Nadia Ali to Terra Firma, and a children’s area. Memorial Hospital of Carbondale leads as major sponsor with seed funds. Friday and Saturday gate fees are 2 dollars for adults and 1 dollar for under 17. Sunday is free.

Tragic Buckner hijack ends in fatal pickup rollover
Kenneth W. Grob, 20, of Lesser died when his 2000 Chevrolet Silverado rolled over on Lincoln Road near Izaac Walton Road in Franklin County after overcorrecting from a skid. He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. coroner pronounced him dead at 8:18 a.m. Investigators noted a 7:27 a.m. rollover call and multiple responders. Police report remains preliminary.

West Frankfort Aquatics Center Offers Summer Swim Classes
The new West Frankfort Aquatics Center at City Park opens summer programs with eight week courses starting July 14. Registration runs through Saturday, with Beginner and Advanced Beginner tracks for children, adults in levels 1 2 and 8, infant toddler classes, and a water aerobics series beginning July 22. Pricing includes 64 for eight weeks, discounts for pass holders, and free entry for preschoolers. The center features a 25 meter six-lane pool and zero entry ramp, staffed by 13 part time workers led by Kathy Renfro, a lifeguard and water safety instructor.
