Shagbark Council of Girl Scouts offers weeklong day camps for girls kindergarten through 12th grade in Carbondale, Salem, and Vincennes Indiana. Camps run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Camp Wildwood Camp Whispering Oaks and Camp Cedar Point with themes shared across four weeks July 7 to August 1, including crafts songs and games. Saline County E-911 celebrates its decade of answering emergency calls and expanding service. It was among Illinois first enhanced systems, went online before many Southern Illinois counties, and now dispatches for 13 fire departments across four counties plus ambulance services and municipalities. Eleven dispatchers staff the center and the unit also backs Johnson County's E-911.
