Northern Irish leader forms Protestant army
The Rev Ian Paisley, Northern Ireland's militant Protestant leader, announced a Protestant Army to fight IRA guerrillas. He vowed to torpedo a British plan giving Catholics a say in governance and led 2000 supporters in marching to Six Mile Cross, Tyrone, amid sectarian conflict. The IRA seeks a united Ireland.
