Area to sparkle on the Fourth of July in Southern Illinois
A weekend of Independence Day events spans numerous towns. In Murphysboro Riverside Park hosts a 64th annual July 4th with a 45 minute Class B fireworks finale after a 7:30 p.m. variety show, plus a carnival, baseball, and booster club barbecue amid safety notes and high insurance costs. Carbondale plans a dusk shoot near SIU Arena with a picnic, and regional towns from Herrin to Benton feature parades, parades, and fireworks.
