Pentagon plan trims Army and Marines as budget slows
The Pentagon outlined a five year plan to cut the Army from 570000 to 490000 and the Marines by 20000 to 182000, retain overseas bases, and seek 525 billion for 2013. War costs fall to 88 billion as Iraq draws down, with total future spending reduced by 259 billion over five years. Critics say the cuts weaken national security.
