John A. Logan College in Carterville advances two new buildings planned in the boom era, now facing tighter funding as the 1999 $8.3 million bond project nears completion. College President Mees warns staff growth may stall, costs may be shifted, and tuition could rise as state tax money accounts for about half the college budget.
Bruce and Stacee Droft built a saltbox style home near West Frankfort that resembles a 17th century New England house. Country Living photographed the interior and exterior, with staff from Keith Morton Photography visiting to document the period decor. The Droits, owners of Arnett's County Store, hope the feature appears in 2004.
