Goose population doubles but season remains poor in region
Canada goose numbers in Southern Illinois western Kentucky nearly double to 61,900 this week yet hunters report a record down season. Census counts show geese spread across Union County, Crab Orchard, Horseshoe Lake, and Rend Lake with snow geese outnumbering them. Harvest totals remain far below last year as no-till farming and late migrations depress yields.
