Ngawang Choephel, a Tibetan music scholar and former Fulbright lecturer, was released on medical parole after 6 1/2 years of an 18 year sentence for spying. He flew to Detroit aboard Northwest Airlines and plans to seek medical treatment in the United States before returning to India where his family lives in exile.
