Quinn to close Jacksonville center and Tinley Park facility
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn unveils a plan to lay off more than 550 state workers by closing a Jacksonville developmentally disabled center and a Tinley Park mental health unit. Moves aim to relocate 185 residents to private and community settings, with anticipated savings of 19.8 million dollars annually and a closing target in October for Jacksonville and July for Tinley Park. Union groups oppose the closures, while aides defend the policy as improving residents’ lives.
