Board backs half cent sales tax for new high school

Du Quoin School Board votes to place a March 19 referendum on a half cent sales tax to fund the district 25 percent share of a $15 million high school. An intergovernmental pact with the city would use the tax to cover debt payments, with state funding covering the remaining 75 percent. The tax would be rescinded when the school is paid for and not levied if state funding fails.
