Flag honoring fallen father flies in Murphysboro

Bill Kilquist preserves a flag that draped his father Freeman Kilquist’s casket. The 1983 death of the Navy WWII veteran left a lasting mark. After September 11 Kilquist chose to fly the flag from his Murphysboro home to honor victims, believing his father would approve and be proud. Kilquist notes the flag’s wear is secondary to its message of unity and remembrance.
