Water freezes in flooded Nevada town aftermath of canal rupture

Flooding from a canal breach in Fernley Nevada left hundreds of homes under up to eight feet of water as freezing temperatures formed ice across yards and streets. The breach followed heavy rains from a West Coast storm that dumped up to eleven feet of Sierra snow and cut power to thousands across the West. Utilities reported more than 215000 customers without power in Northern California, with outages possibly lasting days. In the mountains, six snowmobilers and two skiers were missing in southern Colorado and a hiker was missing in Southern California.
