Community Christmas trees help fish habitat in Southern Illinois lakes
Local and state officials collect discarded trees for fish habitat at Bend Lake and three other sites. More than 300 trees will be sunk in March after cleaning to remove tinsel and ornaments, while flocked trees are excluded. Drop sites include Rend Lake and Carbondale locations. Jackson County 4-H groups will collect about 25 trees for local lakes, with IDNR coordinating the drive through early February.
