Plane belly lands at Olathe after two left wheels fail

A Trans World Airlines twin engine craft skidded to a belly landing at Olathe Naval Air Station, Kansas, after losing its two left wheels. Six passengers and nine crew members escaped uninjured. a passenger, Norma King, 21, was treated for a delayed reaction but will be fine. Captain Bud Rice guided the plane to a safe stop after a 9 hour 21 minute flight from Chicago.

Kennedy Urges Expanded Defense Budget Before Summit

Senator John F. Kennedy called Congress to boost missile air force and ground forces spending ahead of Eisenhower’s summit. Civil Rights Fight Begins In Senate

In Washington on February 23 the Senate opened its nonstop drive to end a southern filibuster and pass an election year civil rights bill. Southern opponents used delaying tactics as Lyndon B. Johnson warned that a substantial bloc could block action until two thirds agree to curb debate. Johnson said the only immediate answer is to press the measure.

Ku Klux Klan Plans 10 Million Member Drive

Atlanta reports a new Ku Klux Klan group and recruiting drive to add 1 million members across 30 states. Imperial Wizard H. deJanés of Joneshoyo, Georgia, says Klansmen from 17 southeastern and southwestern states have consolidated into Knights of the Ku Klux Klan Inc. with 42,000 members. Kleagles will visit New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware among others.
