Fire destroys three Anna businesses in one building

Fire swept through a 3600 square foot building housing BCD Service Co Inc Cliff View Builders and Kerby Bookkeeping and Tax Service destroying most equipment and records. Mayor Robert Ferrel operates BCD and Cliff View. Kerby Bookkeeping is owned by Phyllis Kerby. No injuries reported as flames and fuel oil contributed to the destruction.

Snowstorm of 1979 Remains in Southern Illinois Memory

On February 25 1979 Southern Illinois experienced a historic blizzard unlike recent decades. The storm paralyzed the region with heavy snow totals from 9.2 inches at the airport to 21 inches in Marion and left highways closed for days. Power outages affected about 6 000 people and thousands sought shelter in schools and community centers. Resources were mobilized by state police National Guard and a snow emergency declared for 30 southern counties. By February 28 federal and state highways reopened and the region began moving again.
