Bowers wins Murphysboro mayoral contest

Murphysboro voters backed Mayor Michael Bowers in the Democratic primary by a 4 to 1 margin over Marion Nash, 1,646 to 490. The total turnout was 2,211 with incumbents winning several aldermanic nominations and a newcomer taking Ward 2. Bowers called the result a vote of confidence and Nash offered congratulations. Write-in activity was noted but deemed not impacting the outcome.
