Illinois Guardmen Headed to Camp Cooke for Nine Month Training
More than a thousand Southern Illinois soldiers of the 44th Illinois National Guard division mobilize for nine months of pre combat training at Camp Cooke California. The unit slated for full strength with some Korean veterans and draftees will leave family behind as facilities promise mixed training and recreation across 96 000 acres near Santa Maria and Santa Barbara.

Frank Seymour Pioneer Mine Operator Dies
Frank Seymour 61 a pioneer coal mine operator died Wednesday afternoon at Herrin hospital where he had been a patient since January 30. Born October 9 1890 in Colfax Illinois he helped shape Illinois mining and founded the Seymour Coal Co later. He was survived by his widow Opal Myers a daughter Margaret Lee and a sister. Funeral services will be at the First Christian church in Benton conducted by Denno W Brown and Earle Barclay with burial in Masonic cemetery.
