Ground sea and air searchers probed a fog bound arc northwest of Rome for the Sabena DC6 believed to have crashed with 29 aboard en route from Brussels to the Belgian Congo. Among the passengers were four Americans and 19 year old beauty queen Marcella Mariani.
Atty Gen Brownell filed a federal antitrust suit in Wilmington Delaware against Schenley Industries alleging illegal stock acquisitions in Park Tilford Distillers. The action seeks divestment of Park Tilford stock and an injunction preventing Schenley from voting or otherwise controlling that stock. Park Tilford is cited as a major competitor of Schenley in whisky.

A derailment on the Milwaukee Road Pioneer Limited near Wadsworth Lake County injured five passengers. Second Lt. Myron Farb of St. Louis ejected himself from an F94 at about 30 000 feet after the intercom failed. He parachuted into a willow grove near Canton S C and suffered a broken leg while a pilot Capt John Meyer brought the craft down safely.

A hunter reported sighting 16 year old Mary Beth Staley in Syracuse after she disappeared from a Staatsburg boarding school on February 6. The girl, daughter of Decatur executive A Rollin Staley, was said to have planned of Chicago with little money and no extra clothing. A. R. Staley and Mrs. A. R. Staley’s Phoenix home were not heard from.
Police say 34-year-old former grave digger Edward Reilly admitted in a formal statement that Richard Ballingall raped and killed 18-year-old JoAnn Gillespie near her home on Jan. 3, 1953, and guided detectives to the alley site. Ballingall also linked to the death of Cecilia Stewart, believed to be his common-law wife.
