A 15 year old boy admitted shooting Deputy Clarence Kelly during a jail transport in Vandalia. He said the gun went off while he tried to bluff to freedom. The deputy, 30, was killed. the boy and a 14 year old companion fled but were captured after an 11 hour search.

Delaware abolishes ancient witchcraft law

In Dover, the State Assembly voted to repeal the old witchcraft statute. It had punished those who practiced or pretended to exercise witchcraft, conjuration or fortune telling with fines up to one hundred dollars and possible imprisonment up to one year.

Korea fighting drops to small raids on frontline

In Korea the fighting dwindled to small raids and clashes as warm weather moved in. The line saw temperatures rise above 40 across the 155 mile front with rain on the Western Front. Allied warplanes conducted fighter bomber strikes and air battles with MiG 15s, flattening eight buildings in a troop concentration area while F80 Shooting Stars breached a rail tunnel with eight bomb hits.
