The Labor Department reports a five tenths of a percent rise in January wholesale prices driven by farm products textiles and machinery with effects of the cold wave expected to lift February prices. Energy prices lagged while farm and food sectors showed sharp gains.
Anthony Kiritsis 44, who held Richard Hall for 63 hours, freed the mortgage executive and was immediately seized on state kidnapping charges after a staged exit with a shotgun still linked to Hall. Police say immunity offer was invalid, and Kiritsis later taunted officers as he was taken away. Hall, 42, sustained only minor injuries.
About 350 college students compete over three days at Southern Illinois University Carbondale in a large game tournament. Cliff Jones, a student from Indiana State University Evansville, concentrates on a chess match while Karen Rhine of Benton, a SIUC student, lines up for her move.

Forecasters call for rainy, cool weather tonight and Saturday with high temps in the 50s and rain probabilities around 70 to 80 percent. Sunday through Tuesday expect mild conditions with more showers and temperatures mainly in the 50s.
