Deadly St Louis Tornado Stuns City of 1951

A St Louis tornado struck before dawn killing nineteen and injuring many, with fears it may rise to thirty. The storm followed a path similar to the 1927 disaster, hitting Brentwood Crestwood and central districts, collapsing tenement blocks and trapping residents. Hospitals overwhelmed, civil defense activated, looting reported, and towers at KTVI and KXLW toppled.

In St Louis on Feb 10 AP reports a tornado struck western central districts near Bohemian area causing building collapses and trapped residents. Vendors and tavern patrons aided victims while witnesses described a blue flash and roaring wind before the walls gave way.

Bomb threats evacuated two Decatur high schools

In Decatur Illinois on February 10 more than 2500 students were evacuated from Eisenhower and MacArthur high schools after telephoned bomb threats. Police and sheriffs deputies searched both campuses and found no devices.

A early morning tornado struck Oblong Crawford County Illinois injuring a woman in a house trailer and unroofing about six buildings. The storm path extended toward Palestine damaging farm buildings while freezing rain sleet and high winds caused hazardous travel across northern sections.
