About 15 000 Eisenhower backers from six states packed Madison Square Garden in New York for the first big 1952 campaign rally. Sen. Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. called the event a success, noting it was held at the campaign start. Mt. Vernon Man Killed Fixing Flat on Route 460
A Mt. Vernon man Christopher Calvin Dodson 27 was fatally crushed while fixing a flat on his car about nine miles west of Mt. Vernon on route 460. A Woodlawn man driving a car named Watkins struck Dodson who had just quit his job to enter the armed services next week. Sheriff Roy Taylor said state police needed time for a complete report. Dodson formerly of St Louis had been returning from a visit there when the accident occurred about 11 pm.
