Firefighters from Johnston City Herrin Marion Du Quoin and Harrisburg battled a morning blaze at the Johnston City State Bank 100 W Broad Way. The fire broke through the roof around 1130 am and was contained by noon as cooling water pressure hampered efforts in sub freezing weather.

The Illinois Division of Highways proposes 1968 District 9 spending of 16.808 million dollars a dip of 50 thousand from 1967.
