The 5th U S Circuit Court reversed a lower court order for Dallas Texas to integrate by midterm and granted more time to desegregate. The ruling sparked potential loss of state aid and penalties under a Texas law tying integration to voter approval and accreditation.

Eugene C. James 52 former secretary treasurer of the Laundry Workers International Union pleaded innocent to charges he failed to report 562 982 in income taxes. In U S District Court arraignment Judge Joseph Sam Perry kept his 15000 bond and said trial may not occur before May. James’ attorney has 30 days to file pre trial motions. He was indicted December 13 by a grand jury accused of diverting about 900000 from the union welfare fund 1951 1954.
