The piece follows Fred Maloof, an octogenarian Virginia landowner in Oxon Hill, who champions John Hanson as the nation’s first president, arguing Hanson united the colonies and established early governance. Historians and locals largely ignore Hanson, while a small circle seeks proof of his preeminence with a mausoleum hunt and archaeology claims.
