Illinois delegation studies BART rapid transit plan
An Illinois group spent two days in late November briefed on the Bay Area Rapid Transit system. The delegation, sponsored by the Illinois Transportation Alliance, included four legislators and four public members led by Prof Ellis Danner of the University of Illinois. They discussed BART’s mixed underground, elevated, and surface system, its 75 miles length, 34 stations, fare technology, and projected $1.4 billion cost with funding from bonds, taxes, tolls, and federal grants.

Special session in Illinois ends with little accomplished
The Illinois General Assembly’s special session produced no substantive legislation. Critics blame a lame duck setup and Gov. Richard and Governor-elect Daniel Walker for a weak tax reform push. Calls emerge to bar lame duck sessions and consider constitutional changes, with reform ideas including earlier sworn-in assemblies and voluntary abstention from post-election meetings.
