Miriah Chapman and Connor Fenton, both nine and ten, collected hundreds of teddy bears for St. Louis Children's Hospital. The Tri-C Elementary School fourth graders organized flyers, rallied classmates, and persuaded families to donate. They will personally deliver the bears to ill children hoping to bring smiles over the holidays.
Brandon Hopkins of Herrin was sentenced in Union County Circuit Court to 60 days in jail and 2% years probation for reckless homicide in the June 30, 2001 crash on Interstate 57 that killed his 6 year old daughter Alexis S. Hopkins-Mezo. He was also fined for illegal transportation of alcohol and ordered to undergo drug and alcohol treatment with random tests.
Ray Lenzi associate chancellor for economic development at SIU Carbondale and CEO of the Southern Illinois Research Park joins Blagojevich transition team on the economic development committee. Shirley Booker Jackson County treasurer and county Democratic chairwoman also named to the panel on Tuesday. Lenzi says he will offer policy input and ideas for business development for the next four years.
