Geese Banded at Crab Orchard Refuge Spotlighted
Bob Sims captures wintering Canada geese at Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge where staff band about 1500 birds yearly. Bob Rice, George Stachan, and Jerry Leinecke operate nets and rocket cannons to snare the geese and attach numbered bands. Age and sex are recorded for each bird as part of a population study.
