OEO to test Volkswagen style cheap houses for rural poor
The Office of Economic Opportunity will run a $4 million nationwide experiment to build basic low cost houses under $10 000 to house rural poor. Target sites in four regions aim to prove such homes can be built for 7500 to 10000 with incomes as low as 3400 or 4000. The plan ties to welfare reform.
