Encephalitis Case Raises Contagion Questions
An eight year old Jonesboro girl Ruth Etta Leggans died from encephalitis. Health officials in Tri County say the illness appears not to be contagious as no notification was received. Children’s Hospital in St. Louis treated the patient. Local health authorities remained unaware of the diagnosis until contacted by a Southern Illinoisan reporter. The state Health Department is checking with doctors for the diagnosis.
