SIU foreman and union leader dies at 66 in Murphysboro

Frank Loy 66 a SIU maintenance foreman and longtime president of the Southern Illinois Pipe Trades Association died at his home after a long illness. Born May 19 1902 in Murphysboro he held numerous civic posts including Kiwanis secretary and civil service board member. Funeral at Immanuel Lutheran Church Monday at 2 p m with burial in Pleasant Grove Memorial Cemetery.

Rotary District 651 Scholarships Aid SIU Students

Three international students at Southern Illinois University receive Rotary International District 651 Fourth Avenue Scholarships funded by a $2 per capita Rotary payment. Recipients Hassan Nejad Iran PhD government, Muriel Fitzjohn Sierra Leone elementary education, Esther Murillo Mexico French literature. Since 1946 the program aided about four students at SIU under the late Willis G. Swartz.
