Bush orders smallpox vaccine for military
President Bush announced he will take the smallpox vaccine with U S military forces but urged it not be widely given to Americans. Vaccinations began for a few dozen personnel with plans to inoculate health teams by late January and make it available to the public in late spring or early summer. The president said his family and staff would not be vaccinated and stressed the risk of serious side effects. He cited possible deployment to high risk areas as justification for his own vaccination.
