Con men drain state office staff for cash
Springfield AP Illinois Bureau of Investigation probes a bank swindle in which con men duped state office secretaries and receptionists and walked off with 14 240 dollars. Chief fiscal officer Donald Smith says the case resembles a Sunday night TV cops and robbers plot. Similar schemes netted 14 000 in Topeka and more than 15 000 in Nashville. Smith explains a man identifying himself as a helper triggered the theft.
