Tanks and Troops Move South Toward Laos and Vietnam
Nearly 100 tanks and several thousand fresh North Vietnamese troops crossed mountain passes feeding the Ho Chi Minh Trail. U S fighter bombers harassed them as some armor appeared bound for the Plain of Jars in Laos rather than South Vietnam. Some tanks were knocked out while others reached three North Vietnamese divisions in Quang Tri Province. Up to 80 percent of troops have crossed the DMZ in recent weeks to reinforce depleted divisions, with reports of another 16,000 heading toward battlefronts near Saigon and believed to have reached southern Laos bases.

Meteor shower forecasts sparkle over holiday skies
Chicago astronomer Jim Seevers of the Adler Planetarium says a Gemini meteor shower will light the northeastern sky from nightfall, peak around midnight, with about 50 shooting stars per hour. The display, one of 15 per year, marks a bright season of Gemini activity and hints at a January "super shower" from another constellation.
