Johnston City Council approves New Year Eve liquor sales until 1 30 a m for all liquor serving businesses at the request of local liquor owners. Free December parking is approved and John Mayers is named patrolman replacing Vernon Campbell. Council meetings shift to 7 p m until daylight saving time resumes.
Goreville has renamed three streets with markers and added Hale Street misprint fix. Crawford Avenue runs west off Ferne Clyffe Road and Old Marion Road joins at the depot via Jones Street. The council will install a street light at Hubbard and Bradley. Mike Moss becomes a one third time officer, increasing coverage with Police Chief Rockwell remaining. A sewer plant public hearing is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17 at the village hall.
Benton fire station installs a teletypewriter to assist deaf and speech impaired persons in emergency calls. Chief Paul Rogers says the device, obtained at no cost from the Illinois Department of Public Health after nine months of effort, will serve police, fire, and ambulance dispatches and allow deaf users to contact relatives over the holidays with home phone bills charged to their own line.
The Cambria Village Board will hold a public safety committee meeting at 7 30 p m Monday to hear residents about Police Chief Wiseman and teen treatment The board also schedules a 7 30 p m Tuesday session at the village hall to discuss a 10 ton load limit on city streets and trucker concerns The no parking ordinance on Maple Street will be strictly enforced starting January 6
