Thebes Lake would form if Mississippi dammed at Thebes
Southern Illinois geographers study a potential large lake created by damming the Mississippi at Thebes in Alexander County. The project would back water to St Louis and across Big Muddy and Kaskaskia, creating lake ports Carbondale and Murphysboro and possibly powering a half million kilowatts. A detailed SIU presentation is planned for late January or early February.
