Beaten death of mother and daughter in Florida car

Melbourne police identify the victims as Patricia Van Eeghen and daughter Phyllis, found beaten in a car in front of Brownlie Funeral Home after husband reported them missing. AFL-CIO Maps Giant Recruiting Drive To Enlist Millions

The AFL-CIO aims to recruit millions of new members in two years before the next convention. George Meany and Walter Reuther pledge an all out campaign, with four million dollars already pledged as an organizing fund by former CIO unions. Greek Fishing Boat Attacked by Turks Near Dodecanese

Press dispatches report a Turkish patrol boat machinegunned the Greek fishing boat St. George near the Dodecanese Islands. One crewman was killed and another severely wounded. The vessel was within Greek waters and later taken to a Turkish port.

Santa barred from Henderson Christmas parade

Santa Claus has been banned from the Henderson city Christmas parade on December 24 after several religious leaders objected to him as a pagan symbol. Recreation Director Dr Earl Gould said leaders threatened to withdraw floats depicting biblical scenes if Santa appeared.

Draft quotas cut sharply in early 1951 pullback

Washington reports the Army will call 6000 men in February, the lowest quota since selective service resumed in 1950. The Defense Department reduced January Army drafts from 8000 to 6000. Navy calls drop to voluntary enlistment, saying fewer conscripts are needed as wartime pressure eases.
