East Gate Liquor Mart to Open With Wine Room Library
Carbondale's East Gate Liquor Mart plans to open in East Gate Shopping Center near South Wall and East Main. Co owner Stephen Hoffman says 1934 vintage wines will fill a temperature controlled wine room with a three volume library. The 2800 square foot store will also house a large walk in beer cooler and employ about 16 people. financing comes from University Bank of Carbondale and a private loan from Hoffmans wifes family.

Two firms extend merger and purchase efforts in 1968
Dayco Corp. buys 94 percent of R. M. Hollingshead Corp. in Camden New Jersey under a tender offer through Jan. 3. Herrin opens 50-child day care center in December open house set
The Herrin Child Day Care Center at 300 W. Walnut St. will hold an open house Sunday December 15 from to 5 p.m. It will operate Tuesday and Thursday evenings and from December 16 Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bracy Realty Co. and Geary Construction Co. built and will run the center with directors Mrs. Joan Bracy and Mrs. Esther Caynak. The 50-child facility serves toilet-trained children ages 2 to 6, mainly for working mothers, with a detailed daily schedule and two-dollars for two children per full day.

Brown Shoe Co. reports preliminary 1968 year results with sales rising to 375.2 million from 327.5 million and net income up to 20.9 million from 19.0 million. Earnings per share reach 3.14, up from 2.87. 1967 figures restated for acquisitions and a January two for one stock split. The St Louis company operates several plants in Southern Illinois.

Dayco stockholders to vote on Allen Industries deal
Dayco Corp. stockholders will vote Tuesday on acquiring Allen Industries Inc., operator of a Herrin plant. Dayco would issue subordinated convertible debentures bearing 6 percent interest, convertible into Dayco stock at 45 dollars a share, maturing in 25 years, redeemable after five years.
