Commodity prices lag for fourth straight month
Washington AP reports the Agriculture Department shows farm prices fell for the fourth consecutive month with November prices 0.8 percent below October and 10 percent below a year ago. Corn and feed grains led declines while some items such as oranges, eggs, and milk rose, offsetting part of the drop. The report notes grim 1982 outlook, with farm income possibly down another $1 to $3 billion, and highlights price changes across cattle, hogs, grains, and rice along with parity and meat-egg statistics.

Conservation districts wary of proposals
National Association of Conservation Districts leaders express deep concern over Agriculture Department plans to create local and state coordinating committees for conservation programs. Lyle Bauer argues the new layer risks bureaucracy and questions the councils’ authority in developing programs, prioritizing resource needs, and applying for matching grants. He notes districts work with many interests but must retain primary program development power.
