Apollo 8 to land at night after moon flight
Apollo 8 plans a pre-dawn landing in darkness southwest of Hawaii after circling the moon. If on schedule, it would be the first U S crew to land at night with no added risk. Recovery crews expect to locate the craft by its beacon and frogmen will attach a flotation collar. Televised segments and multiple live transmissions are planned during flight and return.
