The AP finds twelve Southern Illinois institutions account for about one third of nearly 127 million dollars in permanent impairment payments. Menard Correctional Center in Chester tops the list with 19 million, due to repetitive stress from aging hand crank locks, followed by Pinckneyville Prison with many carpal tunnel awards. Attorney Tom Rich notes his clients’ injuries reflect legitimate, hard working employees.
