Two area men held as Jackson County probes thefts
Jackson County jail holds Richard L. Gray 23 and Edward L. Smith 21 after arrests by Murphysboro police on charges including motor vehicle theft, driving without a license, and intoxication. Gray, of Carbondale, was linked to a vehicle theft and earlier burglary. Smith, serving in the Army, provided a home address. Authorities probe connections to other Saturday thefts at a tavern lot and a General Telephone warehouse break-in, with several items reported missing. Both men are held without bond pending court appearance.
