Changes recommended in way schools are organized and funded
At a Tuesday morning meeting with Southern Illinois school superintendents Robert Leininger chair of the Illinois Education Funding Advisory Board outlined recommendations from an October IEFAB report. The plan urges raising General State Aid from 4560 to 5665 per pupil and shifting funding away from property taxes toward legislative allocations. It also proposes using TANF and Kidcare poverty measures instead of Census figures. The report calls Illinois tax burdens regressive and urges reduced reliance on property taxes with a move to state funded education. See changes on page 2B.
