Rostow and his wife will join the University of Texas faculty on Feb. 1 with Rostow serving as professor of economics and history and his wife as associate professor of government. Rostow is a former White House adviser and ex-Columbia and MIT faculty.
Three people were injured Tuesday afternoon in a traffic crash on Route 13 near Cambria Road east of Carbondale. Cars driven by Lela Carter and Estle Stratton were involved. Hazel Taitt suffered minor injuries. Straton’s vehicle sustained major damage.
San Francisco AP reports police arrested eight students on Tuesday as SF State College reopened. About 60 students attempted to enter classes in the Business Social Sciences Building while a picket crowd of 50 urged a classroom strike. Police and a tactical squad kept order across campus amid a state of emergency declared by acting President Hayakawa.
Thelma F. Stearns of Anna has been named deputy director of the Shawnee Development Council serving Union Johnson Pulaski Massac and Alexander counties. She succeeds Lewis Walker who became director in September. Stearns has worked with the agency three years in roles including Neighborhood Youth Corps office manager and Union County economic opportunity programs coordinator. Her salary is 8652 dollars.
