A West Frankfort seaman, Obbie G. Hubbard, was listed as slightly injured by the Navy after a violet explosion Sunday aboard the tanker Ashtabula tied to the repair ship Ajax in Sasebo Japan. The Navy reported two dead two missing and nine injured.
Southern Hinds University announces a five member liberal arts council with Norman W. Caldwell W H Iucke serving one year and Kenneth A VanLente representing the faculty for one year. Two-year terms go to W M Gersbacher and W E Simone. The council advised by Dean T W Abbot will review liberal arts curricula admissions and graduation and consider matters brought by the dean council members or any faculty member.
