Illinois boy roper turns rancher after rodeo life

John Willmore of West Frankfort Illinois moved from Old Ben Coal mine work to New Mexico rodeo circuits then back to Southern Illinois. He trained calves and horses, earned about 20000 in peak roping years, retired after age and new rodeo rules, and now runs a riding stable near Waltonville with five horses and plans for upgrades.

Shawnee Library System expands film collection reach

The Shawnee Library System acquired 60 16mm films worth about $10,000 and aims to reach 100 titles by next spring. The network serves 33 libraries in 18 southern Illinois counties with 39,000 books and annual distributions of 3,000 to 6,000 books and records.
