County road district study to hold September meetings
The Jackson County committee, led by James Gillmore, studies a countywide unit road district with a report due to the county board by October or November. A Sept 7 meeting with the Farm Bureau executive board is planned at Murphysboro, with efforts to convene township highway commissioners and prior discussions with Randolph County officials.

New curb making machine tested in Murphysboro project
Workmen for J D Turner Construction Co of Carrier Mills operate a new formless curb machine in Murphysboro during reconstruction of North 20th street. Loren Lambert of Harrisburg drives the machine while Bill Head and Richard King from Harrisburg and Jonesboro check the curb. The machine recently completed a curb break for a driveway. Turner has a sub contract with Bishop Burd Construction Co of Olmstead, holding a 250000 contract to widen and resurface North 20th street from Walnut to Illinois avenues with storm drainage improvements.
