Carbondale to consider cut in property taxes

Carbondale officials move to cut property taxes next year with higher sales and utility revenues. The plan would reduce the general levy and street lighting, lowering the rate from 1.37 to about 1.076 per 100 of assessed value, though net savings hover around 22 cents per 100 due to rising pension and library levies. City managers cite stronger revenues and a need to ease anti tax sentiment while maintaining cash balance for services.
